DADI The musician, composer, producer and singer Dadi (Eduardo Magalhães de Carvalho) was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Dadi was raised in Ipanema and, like other teenagers from his generation, he grew up listening to the rock sounds of Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, the Kinks, Cream and the Who. At the age of 13, he started to play guitar and bass, and joined some school friends in the band, The Goofies, with whom he used to play at teenage parties in Rio. Dadi started his professional career as bass player for the group Os Novos Baianos, with which he recorded the albums Acabou chorare (Som Livre/1972), Novos Baianos F. C. (Continental/ 1973), Linguagem do Alunte(Continental/1974) and Vamos pro mundo(Som Livre/1975). In 1975, in the company of other Brazilian musicians, Dadi played with Mick Jagger on the recording of the song "Scarlet", in PolyGram’s studio, in Rio. He was also a member of the groups Banda do Zé Pretinho and Admiral Jorge V, with Jorge Ben, with whom he traveled on Brazilian and international tours and recorded the albums Ao vivo no olympia(Phonogram/1975), Solta o pavão(Phonogram/ 1975), África Brasil(Phonogram/1976), Tropical (Island Records/Phonogram/1977, and A banda do Zé Pretinho(Som Livre/1979). With his band A Cor do Som, joined by Armandinho, Ary Dias, Gustavo Schroeter and his brother Mú Carvalho, Dadi released the albums A Cor do Som(Warner/1977), A Cor do Som ao vivo no Montreux International Jazz Festival(Warner/1978), Frutificar (Warner/1979), Transe total(Warner/1980), Mudança de estação (Warner/1981), Magia tropical(Warner/1982), As quatro fases do amor(Warner/1983), Intuição(Warner/1984), O som da Cor(Warner/1985) and Gosto do prazer(RCA Victor/1987), performing with the group on Brazilian and international tours. Dadi was also bass player for the band Barão Vermelho, with whom he recorded the album Na calada da noite (WEA/1990) and performed in shows all over Brazil, and bass player for Caetano Veloso in the tour Circuladô, that was recorded live and released on the CD Circuladô ao vivo(PolyGram/1992).In 1996, Dadi released with A Cor do Som the album A Cor do Som ao vivo no circo(Movieplay), which was awarded the Prêmio Sharp de Música. By this time, he joined the band of Marisa Monte, with whom he recorded the albums Barulhinho bom (EMI/1996) and Memórias, crônicas e declarações de amor(EMI Brasil/2000). In a revival of the Os Novos Baianos, Dadi joined the group to record, in 1997, the CD Infinito circular (PolyGram). In 2002, Dadi became bass player for Rita Lee in the Brazilian tour “Aqui, ali, em qualquer lugar”. His song “Dois perdidos”, a partnership with Arnaldo Antunes, was the song theme of the film Dois perdidos numa noite suja, directed by José Joffily. Dadi also performed with Jorge Benjor on the recording of Acústico MTV, released on CD and DVD, and in the following shows in Via Funchal (São Paulo) and ATL Hall (Rio). In this same year, he performed with Marisa Monte, Carlinhos Brown and Arnaldo Antunes on the recording of the CD/DVD Tribalistas, playing acoustic guitar, slide guitar, electric guitar, bandolim, cavaquinho, piano, Hammond organ and accordion. As bass player for Rita Lee, Dadi recorded the album Balacobaco (Som Livre/2003) and performed on her Brazilian and American (New York and Boston) tours, and recorded with the singer the CD/DVD MTV ao vivo(EMI/2004). As a member of the band A Cor do Som, Dadi performed in Canecão, in Rio, with special guests Caetano Veloso, Daniela Mercury, Moraes Moreira, Davi Moreira and Coral dos Canarinhos de Petrópolis. The show was released on the CD/DVD A Cor do Som Acústico (Sony & BMG/2005), produced by Sérgio de Carvalho, and received the Prêmio Tim de Música (Tim Music Award), as Best Group. On his first solo album Dadi (Impartmaint/RipCurl-Japan/2005 – Som Livre-Brazil/2007), Dadi recorded his compositions "Se assim quiser", "Cantado por você", "Dois perdidos", "Quando você for dormir", e "Bandeira Clara", all these in partnership with Arnaldo Antunes, "No espelho" (with Rita Lee), "Na linha e na lei" (with Caetano Veloso), "No coração da escuridão" (with Jorge Mautner), "Alvo certo" (with André Carvalho), "Imaginado" (with Arnaldo Antunes and Domênico) and the instrumental "70's", featuring special guests Rita Lee, Caetano Veloso and Marisa Monte. Again with Marisa Monte, he recorded, in 2006, the albums Universo ao meu redor (EMI) and Infinito particular (EMI), and performed with the singer on Brazilian and international tours. In 2008, his album Ao vivo em Tóquio (Dadi Records), recorded live at Praça XI, in Tokyo, was released in Brazil. In the same year, Dadi released the album Bem Aqui (Sunnyside / Impartmaint / RipCurl – Japan), with his songs “Voz de comando”, “Por que não?” and “Bem aqui”, all in partnership with Arnaldo Antunes, “Refém” e “Passando”, both with Domenico Lancelotti, “Devo lhe dizer” (with Marisa Monte and Adriana Calcanhotto), “Não tente compreender” (with Marisa Monte), “Quando você me abraça (with André Carvalho), “Depois da chuva” (with Kassin), “Não é proibido”(with Marisa Monte e Seu Jorge), the instrumental “Soraya”, and also a song by Chico Buarque, “A banda ----------(Bret Sjerven /Heloísa Carvalho)
