JUPITER APPLE, A SÍNTESE DA MÚSICA BRASILEIRA MODERNA

Jupiter Apple (ou Júpiter Maçã, como ele é conhecido no Brasil) tem sido uma força vital e altamente influente por um longo tempo no Brasil. Transita livremente do pop ao rock ao Tropicalismo e Bossa Nova, cantando tanto em Português como em Inglês, ele é sempre inovador e está constantemente na vanguarda da cultura pop.

Jupiter possui um status de semi-Deus na cena underground brasileira e já foi aclamado por artistas de renome como Stereolab e Caetano Veloso.

Cantor/compositor, músico e cineasta, Jupiter Apple (conhecido neste período como Flavio Basso) começou sua carreira com a lendária banda de rock brasileira TNT, formando mais tarde Os Cascavelettes. Em 1996 iniciou sua carreira solo, trocando seu nome para Júpiter Maçã, lançou a psicodélica estréia “A 7a Efervescência” que seria mais tarde eleito pela Rolling Stone Magazine como um dos “100 discos brasileiros mais importantes da história”. Além de ter sido eleito pela revista Aplauso o maior e mais influente álbum do rock gaúcho.

Mudando seu nome novamente em 1999 para Jupiter Apple, ele lançou o delicado e “Bossa Novístico” Plastic Soda. O álbum conquistou sucesso de crítica e foi premiado pela APCA (Associação Paulista de Críticos de Arte).

Os álbuns seguintes, “Hisscivilization” (2002) e o bluesy/folky “Bitter” (2007) demonstraram ainda mais o talento inquieto e influente de Júpiter. 2008 nos trouxe “Uma Tarde na Fruteira” (A Marchinha Psicótica de Dr. Soup, Beatle George, entre outros hits) - que caiu nas graças da crítica Alemã, lançado na Europa pela Elefant Records.

O single de 2009, `Modern Kid` foi eleito pela Rolling Stone como uma das melhores canções do ano. Em 2010 foi lançado um novo single: Calling All Bands, seu hino celebratório à cultura das bandas pop. Imagine o neo-Tropicalismo dos Mutantes e Tom Zé , com uma pitada de Caetano Velsoso e Tom Jobim, com um toque dos Beatles, Beach Boys, Velvets e os Stooges e você começara a ter uma ideia do universo sonoro de Júpiter. Sempre original, Júpiter tem sido, até agora o segredo musical brasileiro mais bem guardado.

Jupiter Apple (or Jupiter Maçã, as he is also known in Brazil) has been a vital and hugely influential figure for a long time in Brazil. Gliding effortlessly from pop to rock to Tropicalismo and Bossa Nova, singing in both Portuguese and English, he is always innovative and constantly on the cutting edge of pop culture.

Jupiter has attained almost god-like status in the Brazilian underground scene and has received the acclaim of renowned artists like Stereolab and Caetano Veloso.

Singer/songwriter, musician and filmmaker, Jupiter Apple (known at the time as Flavio Basso) started his career with the legendary Brazilian rock band TNT, later going on to form Os Cascavelettes. In 1996 he went solo, changing his name to Jupiter Maçã and released his psychedelic flavoured debut A 7a Efervescencia which would later be voted by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the “100 most important Brazilian albums of all time”.

Changing his name again in 1999 to Jupiter Apple, he released the delicate and Bossa Novaesque CD Plastic Soda. The album gained critical acclaim and an award from the Sao Paulo Arts Critics Association.

The following two albums, Hisscivilization (2002) and the bluesy/folky Bitter (2007) further demonstrated Jupiter’s mercurial and influential talent.

2008 brought the release of Uma Tarde na Fruteira, released in Europe by Elefant Records. The 2009 single `Modern Kid` was voted by Rolling Stone as one of the year’s best songs. 2010 brought the release of a new single: Calling All Bands, Jupiter’s anthemic celebration of pop band culture.

Imagine the neo Tropicalism of Mutantes and Tom Ze, together with a hint of Caetano Velsoso and Tom Jobim, a touch of the Beatles, Beach Boys, Velvets and The Stooges and you begin to get an idea of Jupiter’s sonic world.
