Quais os sons da Amazônia? Esse é o maior desafio que Kleber Benigno, Márcio Jardim e Nazaco Gomes enfrentam desde 2000, em sua pesquisa musical. O Trio Manarí coloca em cada batuque um pedaço da cultura amazônica. Para adentrar o universo do negro, do índio, do caboclo marajoara e retirar de suas crenças e lendas, material sonoro que é fonte de inspiração para releitura de canções populares, o Trio viajou pelo interior do estado do Pará. Em cada região, eles dialogaram e trocaram experiências com os músicos locais, buscando somar e mesclar sonoridades. Os arranjos percussivos podem nascer de sons da água, da floresta, ou da boca de um nativo da região. E o Trio ficou de ouvidos atentos a tudo. A documentação dessas viagens está no primeiro álbum, chamado "Braços da Amazônia", lançado em 2002 e que tem participações especiais de Fafá de Belém, Nilson Chaves, Andréa Pinheiro, Floriano e Iva Rothe, além de músicos como Adelbert Carneiro. Integraram também o grupo "Percussão Brasil", com o qual acompanharam a cantora Jeanne Darwich em turnês pelo Canadá, em 2000. Além de atuar no meio artístico, o Trio Manarí ministra oficinas de percussão, em que teoria musical e manulação de instrumentos são ensinadas para jovens e adultos em vários projetos dentro de Belém. Os ritmos tradicionais da região como o Carimbó, o Lundu e o Samba de Cacete, viram objetos de estudo para os alunos, que são estimulados a criar uma sonoridade própria a partir deles. O Trio também pesquisa instrumentos exclusivos da Amazônia, como o Curimbó, feito de madeira rústica e de couro de boi, tradicional da região do Marajó. Junto com os instrumentos vêm novas batidas que dão para o som ainda mais a cara da região de onde são originados. Mas além de pesquisar os primórdios da música na região norte, o passado ancestral desses sons, o Trio Manarí não deixa de ter um olhar no futuro e nas novas formas eletrônicas de percussão. Alguns "Sets" feitos no computador, já são incorporados nos shows e nos arranjos das novas canções, para dar uma "cor" a mais às canções. Experimentar é uma ordem para o Trio Manarí. Por isso, também se aliaram a poetas da região Norte como João de Jesus Paes Loureiro, que empresta suas linhas poéticas com todo orgulho para a musicalidade do trio. Com o CD 'Braços da Amazônia', há três anos consecutivos, o Manarí é selecionado entre dez mil concorrentes para participar do Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), em Nashville (EUA). Neste ano, o trio percussivo foi o único do Norte chamado para levar os ritmos amazônicos modernos para o mundo. Tudo isso é resultado da repercussão do trabalho, que é regionalista sim, mas não é barrista. O espelho da tradição amazônica agora pode ressoar em outras culturas, em ouvidos e mãos de percussionistas em todo o planeta.
